Review
PEZ is described as ‘David Bowie mixed with some Britney pop, glitter, glam, Andy Warhol pop-art, James Dean looks, and some underground electro from outer space’. Grand words indeed. Apparently, the Amsterdam-born singer wrote ‘At The Club’ at the age of 16, while still coming to terms with his sexuality. The track is an ode to the joys of escaping to the relative shelter of the club when things get too much for you.
‘At The Club’ does exactly what it says on the tin. It literally is a song about having fun at the club. With a pounding beat and a pretty catchy chorus, this is certainly a track which gets your feet tapping and which would keep you on the dancefloor should you already be there. However, we doubt that it would actually get you up from your seat and therein lies the problem.
Although the song is catchy and the message behind it uplifting, it is distinctly average. Unfortunately, there is nothing that sets ‘At The Club’ apart from the plethora of throwaway dance tracks which seem to be invading the charts with noticeable ferocity.
However, let’s face it; a song that gets you singing along and potentially throwing yourself around a dance floor is no bad thing. If that’s your main criterion when looking for tracks to download that PEZ is most definitely an artist to watch. If, however, you prefer a little more meat on the bones of your music, then you would be well advised to keep scrolling.
