12 March 2011 sees the launch of a brand new LGBT web soap, GAYXAMPLE.  The show, whose title is a play on the name of Barcelona’s gay district, Eixample, revolves around a group of loosely intertwined characters as they live out their lives in that vibrant, colourful, and sunny Spanish city.

The characters range from lesbian domestic abuse social worker Montse, Argentinian battered wife Alicia, beary fun-loving sexual health clinician Toni, divorced father Alex and his outlandishly high maintenance partner Ivan, Alex’s straight nephew Xavi, and tortured teenager and aspiring artist, Lluis.

So So Gay took a look at the previews – and it looks exciting. Each episode is around 20 minutes long and deals with a variety of topics such as coming out, domestic violence, relationship dynamics and HIV. The characters are believable and endearing, with even some of the more stereotypical personas showing down-to-earth and subtle personalities beneath over-the-top charisma.

There is also just the right mix of humour and seriousness to make the episodes entertaining and easily watchable.  The range of story-lines and depth of characters makes the series engaging; our only minor complaint is that the episodes seem to be too short!

This is definitely one to follow as it is set to develop into something compelling and fun, as well as being a heartfelt tribute to the Spanish LGBT lifestyle.  And, if the plot doesn’t quite grab you, the hunky, muscular, and bearded cast of Spanish men most certainly will!

Take a look at the trailer:

GAYXAMPLE premieres on 12 March via its official website.
