It’s that time of year when we all have to smile more than we already do; at endless Christmas parties, at shop assistants tying bows on our gifts and at colleagues as we unwrap our thoughtless Secret Santa presents. Here at So So Gay we never stop smiling, no matter what time of year it is, so when Bel Sorriso offered us the chance to have our gnashers lightened for the festive period we almost bit off their hand.
Bel Sorriso offer an at-home cosmetic teeth whitening treatment which meant we weren’t jumping into a dentist’s chair to have them chemically bleached, we were sat cosy and warm at home. The process is absolutely painless and stress free, which we were thrilled about – our neighbours wouldn’t have been too impressed had we had been shrieking.
We settled into our comfiest chair and opened wide. David – the lovely man from Bel Sorriso – applied the oxidizing agent to our teeth before activating it with a cool blue LED light. The agent penetrates into the porous part of the tooth enamel and lifts away stains we got by drinking too much red wine, drinking too much espresso for breakfast and having the odd naughty cigarette on a night out. The agent David used is non abrasive so didn’t damage the soft tissue of our gums and lips or the structure of our teeth.

The treatment was spilt into four 15 minute slots, so we got a break and could gossip away and read the post-treatment care David provided. The first 15 minutes cleaned the outer layer of enamel, whilst the remaining time penetrated into the enamel more deeply and cleaned our stains away. Our teeth were never going to be as blindingly white as Ross’ off Friends, a treatment like this will only lighten your teeth to their natural lightness, which looks far better than the dentists fake white offering. Following the treatment we had to follow a strict white food diet for 48 hours, which seemed like a lifetime. Chicken, white pitta and cottage cheese was our sustenance of choice.

Our teeth lightened very nicely and we are still happy with the results a few weeks later. They should stay lightened for 12-18 months, dependent on lifestyle. This sort of thing is perfect for the party season and for couples to have done before civil partnership ceremonies.
