Here at So So Gay we are forever running searching for the best content and latest news to keep you all entertained and informed. Covering so much ground, interviewing people, reviewing restaurants, and much more – when it gets to the end of the week our poor feet are almost worn down to the bone. Your feet aren’t the first port of call on a beauty routine and they really aren’t the nicest of body parts to deal with, but they still need as much love and attention as the rest of you.
To help you unwind and relax SSG have tried out some of the loveliest pampering products to take care of your little piggies. Next time you get 15 minutes in front of Coronation Street stick your feet in a bowl of warm water with some sea salt and feel the aches disappear. Our step by step foot care routine below is also another good way to give you soft, exfoliated tootsies.
First up has to be one of the best beauty gadgets of all time. Guys love a good gadget and this one had us in heaven. The Emjoi Micro Pedi (£39.99 – Boots) looks a bit like one of the dreaded epilators, but is in fact a motorised version of the Pedegg. This will tackle the roughest of heels and the worst dry, cracked soles. You don’t feel a thing as it glides over your skin removing all the dead cells. It has two interchangable rollers, coarse and extra coarse, meaning you can target specific areas which are in need of more treatment. This is a lot easier than using the pumice, metal scraper and Pedegg alternatives.
Once you have removed the harder skin, the next step is to exfoliate the whole foot. The best thing to use is a coarse foot scrub such as Dr Organic Virgin Olive Oil Foot Scrub (£6.19, 125ml - Holland & Barrett). Massage in to moist feet and rub in a circular motion, you’ll feel the micro particles of volcanic lava get to work immediately. This will see off the rest of the dead cells from your feet, leaving them feeling soft and nourished as the olive oil does its work. As it’s organic, it contains no nasty chemicals and only uses the best natural products, such as Aloe Vera juice, Beeswax, Vine Leaf Extract and more to help care for your skin.
By now you’ll have the softest feet you’ve ever felt – but as a result of all that buffing and scrubbing, you need a good soothing cream to help calm the newly refreshed skin.
Aveda Foot Relief (£6.00, 40ml – Aveda) is perfect for this. Not only does it soothe with a lovely cooling sensation, but it moisturises with jojoba and castor oil and finishes off the treatment with a natural form of salicylic acid to banish the final rough bits. Aveda is natural so again you aren’t putting any chemicals on to your skin.
Don’t forget to give some love and attention to those things on the end of your legs which transport you around every day. Take care of them and they’ll take care of you. Plus in the long run there will be less to do next summer, when the season to start panicking about flip-flops and ghastly toe nails comes round again.
