Polyester – Scratch and Sniff Film: Edinburgh International Film Festival

polyester_1

Brace yourselves: scratch and sniff cards at the movies are back!

As a ’once-off’ for the Edinburgh International Film Festival and to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary, Midnight Movies are presenting Polyester, a cult comedy classic. The film has been restored to brand new 35mm print, and stars drag queen Divine as the frumpy, long-suffering suburban housewife, Francine Fishpaw. Our leading lady is tortured by her cheating husband, her sickening children and a barrage of offensive odours (cue your scratch cards!).  Polyester is one of John Waters’ (Hairspray, Pink Flamingos, Divine Trash) most loved films and quickly gained ‘cult’ status close to thirty years ago.

Those of you lucky enough to be able to attend should get along from 10.00pm to the pre-screening party in the Filmhouse Bar. Film-goers are encouraged to go ‘all out’ for this event, arriving dressed as housewives, teenage delinquents, nuns, divine drag queens or in your best eighties outfit.  Trashy retro music and delectable cocktails will be served and prizes given to the best dressed and worst smelling audience members!

Polyester will be screened on Friday 24 June 2011 as part of the 65th Edinburgh International Film Festival from 10pm. Tickets are available in person from the venue – Edinburgh Filmhouse, 88 Lothian Road, Edinburgh, EH3 9BZ or alternatively from the Edinburgh Film Festival website. Tickets can also be purchased by calling: 0131 623 8030.

You can also see a preview of the film at the Festival’s official website.
