In a moment of what might be called poetic justice, the actions of the well known anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) have resulted in $50,000 being donated to a charity for Aids care in its name.
The vocal, family-based church is well known for its protests against homosexual rights and its utilization of confrontational tactics in publicising its doctrine. The Church has earned notoriety and widespread condemnation for picketing the funerals of US military personnel while waving signs reading ‘God Hates Fags’, as well as demonstrating outside other institutions or events it deems to be pro-gay.
However, the church may have just met its match in the form of Lisa Lampanelli, the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Mean’. The Connecticut-born comedian was nearly the latest victim of the WBC, which attempted to picket her show following her support for gay rights. In a shock move, Lampanelli pledged to donate $1,000 to charity for every protester.
When speaking on the subject, The ‘Queen of Mean’, whose act is based on insult humour, expressed her opinion with her classic acerbic wit:
I’d love to see their inbred faces when they open those thank you notes! Hopefully their jaws will drop so fast that their three remaining teeth and cro-magnon foreheads will plummet to the floor.
