Simon Hughes states there will be marriage equality during this parliament

Simon Hughes, Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats and MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, has said the government will give same sex couples the right to participate in civil marriages during the life of the current parliament.

Hughes stated a consultation will take place on the issue within government.

Nick Herbert, the most senior gay Tory, stated “It’s not something we’ve got immediate plans to change, but we recognise that there are views that say that the name is important.”
